Welcome to our web page.  Bay Arenac Intermediate School District has received 31n funding to provide assistance to schools within our district with regard to supporting students in the general student population who may be struggling with mental/behavioral health issues.  We came on board in February of 2020 and will be providing interventions at the Tier 2 and Tier 3 levels with students in the form of small groups and/or individual sessions.  We also will be providing support to teachers, administrators and other school staff regarding the Whole Child approach and social emotional learning as a critical part of a child's development in addition to academics.

Hello, my name is Lisa Beson and I am elated to join the educational teams at Kolb, Linsday, and Pinconning Central Elementary.  I have worked for many years in the community/agency setting and I am excited for the opportunity to be in the schools working with students. I was born and raised in this area, my husband is a local business owner and school board member and we really enjoy being involved in the community.  I have three children who will be in 7th, 9th and 10th grade in the fall.  

Education/Experience: Graduate of John Glenn High School, Albion College - Bachelor's Degree in Psychology, Michigan State University - Master's Degree in Counseling.  Work experience includes working with survivors of domestic violence, working as a residential and outpatient substance abuse therapist, and private practice.  I also currently work at Bay Psychological Associates with all populations as a mental health therapist.

Specialties: Coping with anxiety and depression, stress management, anger management, social skills, impulse control, self-esteem, conflict resolution.  Use a variety of modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, person-centered, reality therapy/motivational interviewing and others.

Credentials & Trainings: LPC - Licensed Professional Counselor.  Trainings include behavior changing techniques for children and adolescents with ODD, ASD, ADHD and mood disorders, Resilience, Motivational Inteviewing, Bullying, ACES, Trauma-informed care, Telehealth and helping students cope with COVID-19, many substance abuse trainings and former certification in addictions

Hi! My name is Cherie Coopersmith, and I am very excited to join Standish-Sterling Central Jr/Sr High School and Bay City Academy.  I'm thrilled to be providing mental health and social-emotional support counseling to students. Over the years, I have worked in Saginaw, Midland, and Gladwin counties. I provided vocational rehabilitation services within the schools and public sector for youth and adults. I'm very excited to be involved with the expansion of mental health services and supports to k-12 students through the 31n initiative. My approach is empathetic and collaborative. I believe that seeking help is an act of courage, and an opportunity for personal growth and healing. I reside in Saginaw county with my husband and two children. My husband is an educator and we enjoy being involved with communities throughout the Great Lakes Bay Region. Our daughter is studying to be a nurse and son is a 8th grader this school year.

Education/Experience: Millington High School Graduate, University of Michigan-Bachelor's Degree-Psychology, Fort Valley State University-Master's Degree-Vocational Rehabilitation & Mental Health Counseling. Work experience includes case management, rehabilitative vocational counseling, crisis counseling, and outpatient counseling. I previously worked at Saginaw ISD and provided services to students 9th-12th grade and at Saginaw CMH as a crisis intervention therapist. I also currently work at Child & Family Services of Saginaw with all populations as a mental health therapist.

Specialties: Adjustment to life changes, anxiety, ADHD, behavior, anger, depression, disabilities, LGBTQA, stress, trauma, self-esteem. Use of variety of modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, person-centered, reality therapy, humanistic, exposure therapy amongst others according to individual needs.

Credentials & Trainings: CRC- Certified Rehabilitation Counselor, LLPC- Limited Licensed Professional Counselor. Trainings include therapeutic interventions/treatments for ADHD, ODD, anxiety/phobias, mood disorders, resilience, trauma-informed care, ACES, eating disorders, co-occurring disorders, START, telehealth and helping students cope with COVID-19, mental health first aid instructor and training's on administering  various mental health assessments.
